Bruker TriboIndenter 950

The Bruker (formerly Hysitron) TriboIndenter 950 is a full-featured nanoindenter. It can apply and measure loads from 10 micro-Newtons to 10 milli-Newtons. Its maximum measurable depth is 5 microns. Reduced elastic modulus and hardness are determined. Additionally, it can measure lateral forces under contact sliding up to 10 microns. The coefficient of friction and thin film delamination force can be measured. For successful and valid data, samples must be well-polished and flat.

Specifications/Capabilities
  • Quasi-static (QS) surface normal indents. Each test takes around 3.5 minutes.
  • Accelerated property mapping (XPM) generates images of the distribution of modulus and hardness for multicomponent systems. In this case, the sample rate is around 2 indents/second.
  • Continuous measurement of property X (CMX). This is a nanoDMA technique that is analogous to continuous stiffness measurements (CSM) for other companies' instruments.
  • Creep measurements using Bruker's proprietary reference frequency technique.
