Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program

MIT.nano Immersion Lab Gaming Program
Launched in 2019, the MIT.nano Immersion Lab Gaming Program is a four-year collaboration between MIT.nano and NCSOFT, a video game development company based in South Korea and founding member of the MIT.nano Consortium. The program seeks to chart the future of how people interact with the world and each other via hardware and software innovations in gaming technology.
As part of the collaboration, NCSOFT provided funding to acquire the hardware and software tools to outfit the MIT.nano Immersion Lab as a research and collaboration space for investigations in artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, artistic projects, and other explorations at the intersection of hard tech and human beings. The program, set to run for four years, offers annual seed grants to MIT faculty and researchers for projects in science, technology, and applications of:
• Gaming in Research and Education
• Communication Paradigms
• Technology for Human-level Inference
• Technology for Data Analysis and Visualization

SENSE.nano seed grants
SENSE.nano—the first Center of Excellence powered by MIT.nano—focuses on novel sensors, sensing systems, and sensing solutions that provide previously unimaginable insight into the condition of our world. Open to MIT principal investigators, this annual call for proposals seeks innovative projects that have the potential to advance the mission of SENSE.nano.
These internal seed grants are awarded to facilitate Grand Challenges identification, to seed projects, to start collaborations, and motivate further industry funding.

Digital Health Sandbox Network
MIT.nano’s Immersion Lab is a supporting facility for the Digital Health Sandbox Network, a program that connects Massachusetts-based startups to cutting-edge research and development (R&D) facilities and allows them the opportunity to apply for funding to test their innovations at one of the network’s labs.
Organized by the Massachusetts eHealth Institute at MassTech (MeHI), the Sandbox Network recently added the MIT Institute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES) as one of three new healthcare R&D hub sites in the program.

Peter J. Eloranta Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships
The Peter J. Eloranta Fellowships are awarded to MIT undergraduates (including seniors planning to graduate in June) for interesting and novel research of student-initiated ideas developed outside the normal curriculum (in any field). Each fellowship awards $7,000 for summer research.
